About Me

Thanks for visiting my blog! I'm Jessica.

I am not great with keeping up on this blog lately, but I do regularly update my Instagram account: GreengateImages. I am also on Twitter under the same name, and my Etsy shop is located here: http://greengateimages.etsy.com]

I am a Christian in my late 30s. I'm single and childless, so naturally I spend my days sleeping in and living in complete freedom. ;) Photography is both part of my job and a hobby. This blog is mostly to share some of my life through my pictures--good, mediocre and bad. There's lots of room for improvement, so I enjoy experimenting and practicing with different techniques and subjects, and then posting my results here so that later I can cringe at myself. I sometimes talk about graphic design, books, TV and other day-to-day topics here, too.

I tend to prefer nature photography much of the time, but I can practically get high off a good portrait session now and then. You'll find both types of photography here.

Fun fact: I hate photos of myself and am extremely picky about what I'll allow to be posted. I'm working on it.

I am originally from northern California. I grew up mostly in the region between Sacramento and Chico, with a few years over in Reno and Sparks, Nevada when I was young. In 2005, I took a job as a graphic designer in Salem, Oregon and have been here since. (Please don't judge my design skills based on that map.) I have a love-hate relationship with Oregon. It's so, so beautiful but it's disappointingly gray too many hours of the year. I also miss my family and wish we lived closer to each other. My parents are still in California, one sister is in New Mexico and the other sister is in Texas.

Between my sisters, I have 10 nieces and nephews whom I love and refer to collectively as "nephieces." That's pronounced NEF-yeeces, because I say so.

Here they all are with my parents a few years ago. My sister took this.

I also have two brothers-in-law.

I am the middle child, but I'm not sure that means anything about me. My Myers-Briggs type is INTP, though I don't consider myself an extreme version of "The Architect"/"The Thinker" since they are portrayed as very detached and genius. Um...no. However, the following line from the linked article is very me:

Precise about their descriptions, INTPs will often correct others (or be sorely tempted to) if the shade of meaning is a bit off.

Much to everyone's annoyance, I'm sure. Basically, I'm "sorely tempted" to correct people ALL DAY LONG, and I can only resist so many times until I give in. Sorry! Accuracy means more to me than friendships, apparently.

I try to tag my entries so that you can easily find certain topics. Check the side column of my blog for links. ---->

Or here's a quick set of links for some popular (maybe?) topics:

If you'd like to subscribe to my blog via email, you can enter your address on this page. Be sure to check your junk mail folder for the auto-reply that will show up when you first subscribe. You'll need to click a link to confirm before you start getting my posts.

So that's the gist of me and this blog! Here are a few posts you may enjoy if you'd like to know me a bit better:

  • 35 facts about me, posted when I turned 35. Some of these are a little outdated, but it's mostly correct.
  • Years in Review - This link will bring you to all of the photo recaps of the past few years, which means you'll get a quick glimpse of my family, friends and travels.

That's all I can think to link right now, but maybe I'll update this list later. Have a great day!

  1. Oh hey, me! Just testing this.

    1. Hellooooooo, Dania! :D Thanks for visiting.

  3. I like your updated About Me page ... however, most of this is stuff that's not new to me. But still cool. Because I love you, so there. I'm totally judging you on your graphic design skills because of that awesome map up there. And pictures of you are usually beautiful so yeah. But I know we are our own worst critics. "Youuu arrre sooo beautiful ... to meee!" Sorry, just wanted to sing to you for a moment. Sing-type. I'm just stalling because while I was reading this, I thought of something I wanted to say to you and then I forgot, so I'm trying to remember. I think it's just gone. Old brain, y'know. It happens when you have a lot of kids, so in that way, feel blessed to be childless. At least you still have your genius brain! Okay yeah, it's not coming back to me, so I'll depart on this note: Choose Joy!

  4. Hi little miss INTP! Just a friendly ISTJ checking in ; )
